How We Color Concrete
Multiple coloring techniques for different looks and applications.
Integral Color
Pigment mixed into the concrete before pouring. Creates consistent color throughout the entire slab. Best for driveways, patios, and any high-traffic area. Won't wear away or chip.
Color Hardener (Broadcast)
Colored powder broadcast onto fresh concrete surface. Creates a denser, harder surface with richer color. Often used for stamped concrete to achieve deeper tones.
Release Agent (Accent Color)
Contrasting color applied during stamping that settles into texture and joints. Creates depth, dimension, and highlights the pattern. Essential for realistic stamped looks.
Acid Stain
Chemical reaction with concrete creates variegated, mottled colors. Each application is unique. Best for achieving aged, natural stone looks with color variation.
Water-Based Stain
Penetrating color for existing concrete. More consistent than acid stain with a wider color palette. Good option for refreshing old concrete.
Custom Combinations
We often combine techniques—integral base color with contrasting release, borders in different colors, or stained accents. We'll help you design the perfect combination.

Pricing varies based on the level of customization:
- Integral Color Only: Add $1-2 per sq ft to standard concrete pricing. Simple upgrade, big impact.
- Stamped Concrete: $12-20 per sq ft depending on pattern complexity and colors used.
- Exposed Aggregate: $10-16 per sq ft. Price varies by stone selection and finish.
- Decorative Borders: $8-12 per linear foot. Great way to upgrade standard concrete affordably.

Decorative Concrete FAQ
Quality integral colors are UV-resistant and designed to last. Some slight mellowing can occur over the first year as the concrete cures, but properly sealed decorative concrete maintains its color for decades. We use premium pigments rated for Colorado's intense sun exposure.
